The Parish Development Forum today announced the lineup for a three-part webinar series updating the popular online Parish Development Forum sessions from June 2022.
“With its theme “The Orthodox Parish as Vessel of Ministry” the recent parish forum attempted to build awareness and capacity for parish ministry as an essential element, not optional, an element of parish life and mission,” said Joseph Kormos, lay co-president of the Forum. “Although more than 12 ministry-related sessions were offered in parallel, participants were not able to participate in all of them. Since the available recordings lack interaction prospects, many attendees have requested the opportunity to participate in live “encore” deliveries of various segments of the Forum. This series will update three segments of the Forum.
The three webinars, which will be presented live with questions and discussions from participants, are:
Thursday, September 15: 7:30 p.m. (EDT) – Sarah Byrne Martelli, Orthodox chaplain and bereavement counselor, will share advice on “To be a ministry of presence with the bereaved” based on his book “Memory Eternal: Living with Grief as Orthodox Christians”.
Thursday, September 22 7:30 p.m. (EDT) – Kenny Kidd, executive director of FOCUS North America, notes that many people believe that only large parishes in urban areas can successfully provide food, clothing and shelter to the poor around them. Kenny will dispel this myth during his session: “Creating opportunities to see and serve our parish neighbours”.
Thursday, September 29 7:30 p.m. (EDT) – Father Justin Patterson, pastor of Saint Athanasius Church, Nicholasville, KY, will review the apparent “failures” that ultimately led to future progress in ministry in his segment titled “Hopes and Obstacles: Three Stories of Challenges in Growing Parish Ministry”.
Archpriest Alexander Cadman, Forum Clergy Co-Chair noted, “Returning parishioners and newcomers yearning for expanded, updated and renewed ministries can be one of the most significant opportunities for the Church. these last years. We want to keep the valuable information from this summer’s Forum alive, vibrant and available to many parish leaders. The Encore series allows us to do just that.
Attendees must register for each webinar separately. (No serial registration.). Each webinar is available free of charge. You can find more information about each webinar and registration links here.
The Parish Development Forum, now in its ninth year, is co-sponsored by the Orthodox Church of the American Archdiocese of Western Pennsylvania, the Diocese of the Midwest and the Bulgarian Diocese.
